Toyota Announces Accelerator Pedal Repair

by Administrator 4. February 2010 03:21

Toyota announced Monday that it has developed a fix for thegas pedals in millions of recalled vehicles.

The company said the new parts are already being shipped todealers. The fix comes after Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles in the UnitedStates due to a problem with the gas pedal that caused it to stick. The newpart reinforces the pedal assembly in such a way that eliminates the excessfriction that caused the problem.

Totota’s president and chief operating officer, Jim Lentz, said in a statement, “We know what’s causing the sticking accelerator pedals, and we know what we have to do to fix it.” The statement went on to explainthat dealers will work extended hours to fix the recalled vehicles.

The company will begin contacting customers this week to letthem know when to bring their vehicles in for the fix. Toyota will cover all ofthe costs related to the repair.
