Runner Killed in Suspected DUI

A Kansas man who was participating in the extremely popularRagnar Relay Series event in Las Vegas was struck and killed by a suspecteddrunken driver, police said.

The man was identified Monday as 33 year-old Jeremy Kunz.Kunz was hit Saturday around 4:35 a.m. as he stood on the side of the road neara race relay point. Keith Paul, Henderson police spokesman, identified thedriver as 25 year-old Joshua Salayich.

According to authorities Salayich was driving east onHorizon Ridge Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle. He swerved onto theside of the road, striking Kunz.

Salayich sustained only minor injuries. According to Paul,Salayich fled the scene of the accident but was apprehended about a half miledown the road. He was booked into jail on investigation of DUI with death,leaving the scene of an accident and resisting an officer.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash,which remains under investigation.
