Driver Killed in U.S. 89 Car Crash

A Phoenix man was killed when he drove his car into aguardrail and lost control near Kanab Thursday. Dino Ortega, 39, was travelingeast on U.S. 89 about 30 miles east of Kanab when the accident occurred around12:09 a.m.

Ortega was on his way back to Phoenix from Salt Lake Citywhen he drove off the roadway and was ejected out of the rear window. Accordingto Utah Highway Patrol, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in thecar was transported to Page, Arizona with minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating alcohol and speed as possiblefactors in the crash. Troopers for the UHP said witnesses reported the vehiclehad been traveling recklessly. Ortega was not wearing a seatbelt.
