A British couple who frequented Tombstone, Arizona have beenhit and killed by a truck.

Arthur and Winifred Wilkinson were crossing a state highwaythat runs through Tombstone’s Business district when they were hit Mondaynight. According to Tombstone Marshal Larry Talvy, the couple was struck in a35 mph zone and the driver was not speeding

The driver stopped after the accident and tried to savetheir lives, but the 81 year-old Arthur died at the scene and his 75 year-oldwife died shortly after at a nearby hospital.

Talvy said that Tombstone had no authority to build acrosswalk or add lighting along the highway where the Wilkinson’s were killed becauseit is state property, but had unsuccessfully requested such projects for atleast nine years from the Arizona Department of Transportation.
