by Administrator 9. February 2010 07:23

At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle pileup on Tucson's south side Monday morning.

According to police the accident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of South Tucson Boulevard and East Bilby Road. Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman Tricia Tracy said that there were five vehicles involved in the wreck.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and at least two people were temporarily trapped in the wreckage, according to Tracy. She said both people were later transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

A school bus from the Sunnyside School District carrying two adults and two students narrowly avoided the crash. The bus was nearing the intersection at the time of the wreck but was able to maneuver away from the collision, district spokeswoman Monique Soria said.
