Arizona Bus Accident Claims Six Lives

Six people were killed and several more injured Friday when the bus they were traveling on lost control and flipped over, ejecting passengers onto the interstate.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:27 in the morning along an Arizona stretch of I-10, south of Phoenix.  According to police reports, the bus hit the back of a pickup truck, swerved left, then right across the road, then flipped over, rolling at least once as passengers were ejected from the vehicle.  Four women and two men were killed in the tragic accident, and another 15 passengers were rushed to area hospitals.  Five people suffered injuries so severe that they had to be life-flighted.  Two 11-year-old children were among the injured.

1 Killed, 2 Injured in Arizona Car Accident

A man in Patagonia, Arizona was killed Saturday morning in a two-car collision on State Route 82.

 

58 year-old Jeffery Lee Kuhn was traveling west in a white 1989 Oldsmobile on SR 82 shortly before 10:20 a.m. Saturday, when the crash occured. According to a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Kuhn's vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lanes and struck a red 2009 Ford SUV head-on. \

 

Kuhn was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. 

 

The driver of the Ford, 77 year-old William Shields and his wife, 75 year-old Jane Shields, were injured in the crash and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The couple's two male German short-haired pointers that were in the vehicle, were uninjured in the crash.

Winter Storms Cause Multiple Accidents

Winter storms on Tuesday created hazardous conditions on Phoenix roadways, causing multiple crashes on I-10 and I-40. The icy conditions caused multiple accidents and a multi-car pile-up on I-10, leaving nine people injured and causing three deaths.

Vehicle fires left the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Casa Grande closed as fire crews attempted to extinguish vehicle fires and help the injured victims receive medical attention.

AZ Scuba Diver Drowns in San Diego

An Arizona man has drowned while scuba diving off Point Loma in SanDiego. The 46 year-old man was diving with a group on a charter boat about amile off the coast near Sunset Cliffs when he disappeared.

City lifeguards who responded to the emergency call searched the areaand found the man below the surface about an hour after he went missing.  City lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said hebelieved the man “took off his buoyancy compensator which had his scuba tank onboard and as soon as he did that, likely he submerged, because he was stillwearing his dive belt.

CPR was performed while transporting the man to lifeguard headquartersand continued on land, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Authorities are still investigating the accident, and no charges havebeen filed against the charter company.

The man’s name has not been released.

AZ Sweat Lodge Deaths Investigated as Homicides

The deaths of two people at an Arizona sweat lodge are beinginvestigated as homicides. The deaths were originally thought to be anaccident.

Police say they are looking into whether the combination of severalelements led to the deaths including improper medical care, dangerousconditions of the sweat lodge, and criminal negligence on the part of theowners.

James Arthur Ray, the leader of the camp, is being looked at aspotentially liable for the deaths. He claims the police are persecuting him inthe media.

Ray told the Huffington Post “I find it very interesting the policeare trying to escalate the case in the media, and frankly, I think theescalation should be in getting the facts. We have one goal and that is to findout what happened so that it never happens again.

Two people have died in the sweat lodge and nineteen others were madeill and rushed to a hospital.

Police Officer Dies in Scuba Accident

Divers searched Sunset Cliffs for an hour, Tuesday, beforethey found the body of 46 year-old police officer, Daniel Forchione. Forchionewas diving with local a local scuba company when he ran out of air and tried tosurface.

According to police, Forchione was over weighted and sank tothe bottom after becoming entangled in kelp. He was diving off a vessel namedD&D II, one of three boats currently operated by Dive Connections Inc.Online records from the U.S Coast Guard show a long history of mechanical andsafety violations on various Dive Connections boats. These violations includeworn out equipment, failure to keep training logs, as well as rudder andsteering problems.

Harbor Unit police are still investigating Forchione’s deathand no criminal charges have been filed.

Arasco Mine Employee Killed in Accident

A mine employee of Arasco has died as a result of a workplace accident at the Ray Mine outside of Kearny, Arizona.  The 29-year-old man was driving a haul truck when it struck a safety berm, which caused the truck to tip over, killing the man.  The employee of 2 1/2 years was pronounced dead at the scene.  The company believes the incident is a workplace accident, and is complying with investigators.  While the mine remains open, the assistant mine inspector has said that the site of the accident has been closed off to aid the investigation.  Investigation is also being conducted by the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
